Minister of Religion: Lately We Feel There Are People Leading Religion to Become Conflict Norms

Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas invited all parties to make religion an inspiration. Yaqut talked about a number of parties that have recently led religion to become the norm for conflict.

"I invite all of us to make religion as inspiration not as aspiration. That is what it means, the simplest is that we now or in recent years have felt how religion has or has tried to lead religion to become the norm of conflict," said Yaqut at the National Gathering. Interfaith at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jakarta, Sunday (27/12/2020).

Yaqut then explained about the purpose of religion being led to the norm of conflict. Yaqut admitted that he did not want Islamic populism to develop widely.

"Religion is used as the norm for conflict in the most extreme language of anyone who differs from his belief, so he is considered an opponent or enemy, whose name is an enemy or opponent must be fought. That is the norm that had developed yesterday or the cool term Islamic populism. All of course they do not want Islamic populism to develop so widely that we are overwhelmed by it, "he said.

Yaqut then talked about the role of all religions in Indonesia. According to Yaqut, Indonesia stands on an agreement between all elements.

"Now the second thing I want to say is that many times on many occasions and I think this is still very contextual even though the position is different, back then when I was active in the Ansor Youth Movement and Banser I always said there would be no Indonesia if there was no Islam, no Christianity. there is no Catholicism, no Hinduism, no Buddhism, no Confucianism, and no other local religions, "said Yaqut.

"Indonesia stands as an intercultural, intercultural and religious agreement in Indonesia, so whoever wants to eliminate one another on the basis of religion means that they do not recognize Indonesia, they do not have a sense of being Indonesian," he continued.
